About Iława Lake District Landscape Park

Iława Lake District Landscape Park (Park Krajobrazowy Pojezierza Iławskiego) is located in northern Poland within the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Established in 1993, this Landscape Park is part of the larger Iława Lake District, a stunning region formed during the last glacial period, characterized by numerous postglacial lakes and gently rolling moraine hills. The park encompasses a mixture of rich natural habitats, including glacial lakes such as Jeziorak—the longest lake in Poland—extensive mixed and coniferous forests, wetlands, and rare peat bogs. Its diverse ecosystems shelter rare flora and fauna, including several protected bird species like the black stork and white-tailed eagle. The park is a valuable biodiversity hotspot and part of the Natura 2000 network, ensuring habitat and species protection. Key recreation opportunities include hiking and cycling on marked trails that meander through forests and along lakeshores, water sports such as canoeing, kayaking, and sailing especially on Jeziorak Lake, and birdwatching. The picturesque town of Iława serves as the main gateway to the park, offering visitor facilities and cultural attractions. Notable landmarks within or adjacent to the park include historical manor houses, numerous natural viewing points, and traditional villages that preserve regional heritage. Visitors appreciate the blend of natural tranquility, recreational diversity, and cultural landscape, making Iława Lake District Landscape Park a favored destination for nature lovers, paddlers, and outdoor enthusiasts eager to explore this quintessential Polish lake region.
